Life Effects™

Living with one or more chronic conditions affects life in so many ways. The only people who really know what patients are going through are those who have faced the same challenges for years. With that in mind we created Life Effects™, an initiative shaped by patients, for patients

Developed in collaboration with patients, Life Effects™ offers information, insight and inspiration for people living with one or more chronic conditions.

People who have been chronically ill for years, or even decades, turn to people who really know what it’s like for information, advice and support: other chronically ill patients. For them doctors, or even their own family members, struggle to really understand what they are going through. That’s why Life Effects is by patients, for patients.

Focusing on the impact a chronic condition has on a patient’s day-to-day life

A long-term chronic patient’s needs go far beyond fully understanding the diagnosis and the biology of the condition itself. They want to know how their condition impacts their life today and tomorrow – but also any practical steps they can take to help them cope on a day-to-day basis.

With this in mind we created Life Effects™, an initiative shaped by patients, for patients. Together, we explore the latest science and thinking around the condition. Whether it's a new piece of research or a fresh look at triggers, we highlight straightforward, useful insights that are relevant to patients living with the condition.

It looks at how health and illness affects the lives of patients and those around them in a profound way that goes much further than the biology of illness and treatment.

We bring tips and technologies to make things a little easier for patients. It might be a new app to organize appointments or life hacks to help improve daily life. We pick the best of the bunch, road-tested by other patients.

And we share stories about the reality of living with chronic conditions. It might be the challenge of starting a new job or the struggle to get out of bed each day. We talk about what it's like with people who have actually been there.

We do this across a range of conditions, focusing on migraine, asthma and mental health.

Navigating the challenges and joys of caregiving

We also recognise the vital role of caregivers. Caregivers go to amazing lengths, embracing the challenges and demands of their changing role to bring care and joyous moments to a loved one as their health changes.

Family members or friends provide incredible amounts of unpaid care to a family member or friend with a physical, cognitive or mental health condition. They are a vital resource, a critical healthcare partner and individuals with their own needs. Within Life Effects we include advice on how to support a loved one with their ongoing health challenges, we also feature personal stories from care givers that others may find reassuring and supportive.
